Proposed simplified return

Proposed simplified return 2023

  • What is the proposed simplified return?

In principle, all taxpayers have to complete their tax return each year. However, another procedure has been introduced for taxpayers whose tax situation tends to remain more or less the same: the proposed simplified return.

The proposed simplified return includes a simulation of your tax calculation based on tax data known to us. It thus shows the amount to be paid or received. If you have received a proposed simplified return, in principle, you no longer need to file a return.

  • Am I going to receive a proposed simplified return this year?

You will probably receive a proposed simplified return if:

    • you are paid a wage, a pension, unemployment benefit or sickness/invalidity benefit, and
    • you have no other income (such as certain types of income from property, self-employment or company director’s income, an account abroad, etc.).
  • When and how am I going to receive my proposed simplified return?

    Via MyMinfin (Tax-on-web)

Your proposed simplified return is now available online at MyMinfin (Tax-on-web). You can view it now (and if necessary amend it) online.

How to access your proposed simplified return

    By mail

If you have activated your eBox, you will not receive your proposal by mail.

If you have not activated your eBox, you will receive your proposal by mail by the end of May at the latest.

You have a joint proposal for a simplified return? If only one of you has activated your eBox, you will receive your proposal by mail.

  • I have received a proposed simplified return. What do I have to do?

Check carefully that your data is correct and complete.

Is your data correct and complete?

You do not have to do anything.

You will receive your tax assessment notice (calculation note) with the calculation of your tax based on the data of that proposed return.

Is your data incorrect or incomplete?

You should complete and/or correct it:

    • Either online via MyMinfin (Tax-on-web): you have until 15 July 2023.
    • Or using the paper form (if you received your proposed return through the post): the form has to reach us by 30 June 2023
    • If you use a proxy (an accountant etc.) they have until 15 July 2023 to amend your proposed return via MyMinfin (Tax-on-web).

You have received a proposal for a simplified declaration but you have specific income?

    • Profits
    • And/or remuneration as company managers
    • And/or remuneration as assisting spouses (legal cohabitants)
    • And/or foreign professional income

If you use Tax-on-web, you must let us know in advance to obtain the deadline of 18 October 2023. Call your competent office preferably before 15 July 2023.

  • My dependent children are not included in my proposed simplified return or the number of my dependent children is incorrect. What should I do?

Is the data relating to your dependent children incorrect or incomplete? You should complete and/or correct it:

    • Either online via Tax-on-web: you have until 15 July 2023.
    • Or using the paper form (if you received your proposed return through the post): the form has to reach us by 30 June 2023.

If you have one or more dependent children you may be entitled to a tax allowance.

  • I have not yet received my proposal for a simplified tax return. What can I do?

Tax return forms and proposals for a simplified tax return are sent in May.

You do not want to wait? Your tax return form or your proposal for a simplified tax return is already available online via MyMinfin (Tax-on-web)

You haven’t received anything at the start of June? Please call your taxation office ("centre Particuliers"/Individuals). Get your identity card ready before calling.

  • Can I receive the return form (and other documents related to it) in another language?

You can consult the documents related to the return form in French, Dutch and German on this site.

You live in Brussels or in a “commune à facilités”/"faciliteitengemeente" (a municipality whose inhabitants have the right to use a national language other than that of the linguistic region in which they reside in their contacts with the municipal administration)

According to the municipality in which you reside, you can receive the documents:

    • Either in French or in Dutch
    • Either in French or in German

You wish to change the language for the documents you receive? Call us at: 02 572 57 57 (direct code: 17002). Before calling us, get your identity card ready. We will need your national register number which is mentioned on the card.

The change may take several weeks. In the meantime, you may still receive documents in the other language (including your return form or proposal for a simplified return).

On the other hand, we cannot resend documents you have already received drawn up in another language.

You do not live in Brussels or in a “commune à facilités”/"faciliteitengemeente"

Unfortunately, we are not able to send you these documents in another language. The language in which you receive your documents depends on the language of your municipality of residence.

You have moved house this year

We take into account your situation on January 1st of this year.
